Boolean variables have only two states: 0 or 1, false or true, white or black, off or on. With boolean operators like AND, OR, and NOT you can create logic flows using only two states. This is the basis of how electronic circuits work. A search engine uses boolean logic when describing a query: flowers AND red OR blue AND NOT roses. Each search term is true when present and false if absent.
